Tommy Hunt Jr., who holds the name Waławidi, was born Thomas Daniel Hunt in 1964 to Hereditary Kwakwaka’wakw Chief George David Hunt (Born 1931) and Mary Susan (May) Hunt neé Henderson (1936-2022). His mother's parents were Sam Sr.  & May Henderson. His father's parents were Thomas (Tommy) Harris Hunt (1906-1983) & Emma (1912-1997) Hunt neé Billy
​Tommy Hunt Jr. is Kwakiutl First Nation and Tlingit First Nation through his ancestor Master Chilkat Weaver Anisalaga / Ansnaq, Musgemxàala, Mary Ebbets (1823-1919), of the Raven Clan of the Taantakwaan, Drifted Ashore House of Tongass, Lingit Anni
Waławidi is a father, mentor and respected community leader

A Life of Carving

Tommy Hunt Jr. uses traditional Kwakwaka'wakw carving tools made by his hand. He continues his daily practice in the carving shed on the K'ómoks First Nation in Courtenay, British Columbia. He travels to the Kwakwaka'wakw communities of his family to carve, paint & raise Totem Poles, Memorial Poles, Big Houses & Community Projects. Tommy Hunt Jr. continues to give back and pass along the teachings of his Chiefs, Elders and artists through his work mentoring the next generation of carvers and artists.
